Profile

When the folks behind Blue Ribbon opened an outpost on Fifth Avenue, it was a pretty sure indication that Park Slope had completely turned its back on the crunchy identity it had once embodied. So it was something of a surpise when a rock venue—rock!—opened in the form of Southpaw. That's not to say that Southpaw is an anomaly in the New Park Slope. This place is no dive; on the contrary, at the same time as some patrons bum-rush the stage to appreciate acts like J. Mascis and Bettie Serveert, others hang back in the lounge area sipping martinis—just like they'd do in Manhattan!

This a place to go to hear great live acts with a good sound system and most importantly a great mixed unpretentious crowd of people who dig music. The Best place in Brooklyn for music. Period.
