New York has a long history of poking fun at politicians on the cover, and our new one featuring Mayor Bill de Blasio makes a spiritual reference to the classic “Is Lindsay Too Tall to Be Mayor?” from 1969. According to design director Thomas Alberty, the cover line “Who Shrunk the Mayor?” felt like an opportunity to make a small mayor and a small headline. “Besides, we all know he’s over six feet tall, so it makes it a little funnier,” says Alberty.
