When you picture an idealized West Village townhouse, this is what pops into your head: a 1905 brick Federal on one of the most cinematic streets in the neighborhood, where crisp awnings shade chic storefronts on narrow streets. That may explain why the duplex penthouse apartment has, in the past ten years, been home to not one but two prominent actresses. Jennifer Aniston and Christina Ricci each stayed here, a year apart, while filming in town in the early 2000s. The details are lovely: Parisian-style casement windows, reclaimed pine floors, and four wood-burning fireplaces with marble mantels. “It feels like a European country farmhouse,” says listing broker Mike Lubin. The chief appeal to the actresses, however, may have been that even the rooftop garden is paparazzi-resistant. It’s partially fenced and slightly elevated above the other houses nearby.
