When we contacted Moby several weeks ago, soon after he’d found a buyer for his $7.5 million penthouse at the El Dorado—an apartment he bought two years ago, he explained via e-mail, because he saw it as a chance to “live in a gothic Art Deco sky castle suspended over New York City”—the musician said he was decamping to an apartment he’d owned for years on the Lower East Side. It appears that he’s on the hunt for a more permanent nest, though: A source says he recently toured a $3.125 million two-bedroom loft on Great Jones Street that’s listed with Barak Realty’s Benjamin Morales and Edil Lacayo. It’s a huge departure from the uptown space—far less traditional and more downtown, with chic Brazilian-walnut floors and a blinged-out kitchen (marble countertops, wine storage). In the end, the musician—described as “quiet and cool” during his visit—took a pass on the property.
