Summer might be over, but the New England fish-shack tradition is alive and well at both branches of the Mermaid Inn, where a weekly Wednesday fish fry kicks off November 5. For $18, you get fried cod, Old Bay chips or fries, hush puppies, and assorted vegetable sides specific to each location. You’ll want beer with that: Pabst Blue Ribbon goes for two bucks a can. 96 Second Ave., nr. 5th St.; 212-674-5870; also, 568 Amsterdam Ave., nr. 87th St.; 212-799-7400.
