A branch of the Parisian pastry shop Maison Ladurée opens on Madison Avenue.

Up on Madison Avenue, it’s out with the Italian luxury shoes and in with the French luxury sweets, as the space formerly occupied by Santoni has given way to a branch of the Parisian pastry shop Maison Ladurée. The 149-year-old company’s macarons have such a fervent following that it’s not too much to say that the shaky cupcake hegemony of the past decade is once again feeling the heat (864 Madison Ave., nr. 71st St.; 646-558-3157).
