We’re in the midst of winter-citrus season, right around the time you might be looking for something else to do with your weekly haul than eat it for breakfast. One intoxicating option: this cocktailian take on the screwdriver that dusts off the old relic by employing bitters and an Italian citrus liqueur. Most crucial is the inclusion of freshly squeezed juice from clementines and Cara Cara oranges, the pinkish-red navels known for their subtle berry flavor.
No. 7 Sub’s Screwdriver
1 Cara Cara orange
1 clementine
1 1/2 oz. Tito’s Handmade Vodka
1/2 oz. Nardini Acqua di Cedro
1 dash Regan’s Orange Bitters
4 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
(1) Juice Cara Cara orange and clementine. (2) Combine in a cocktail shaker with the remaining ingredients and ice, and shake. (3) Strain over new ice into a rocks glass. Serves 1.
