Starving Art-Lovers

This weekend, over 100 artists open their studios in Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, and Bedford-Stuyvesant as part of the annual SONYA (South of the Navy Yard Artists) Studio Stroll. Since it’s self-guided (maps are at, you can stop for a snack along the route.

  1. 1. Luz

177 Vanderbilt Ave., nr. Myrtle St., Fort Greene; 718-246-4000

The menu reads like a Latin American greatest-hits list, from lush arepas to Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken, and the mojitos are good and cheap.

  2. 2. Locanda Vini & Olii

129 Gates Ave., at Cambridge Pl., Clinton Hill; 718-622-9202

A beautifully restored nineteenth-century Clinton Hill pharmacy turned terrific Tuscan restaurant. Try the chestnut lasagnette, and the house wines sold “consumption style”—you get a fresh bottle and pay only for what you drink.

  3. 3. iCi

246 DeKalb Ave., at Vanderbilt Ave., Fort Greene; 718-789-2778

Civilized and low-key, with a serene garden and a seasonal American menu that makes inspired use of locally grown ingredients.
