The Bavarian Calendar

In Munich, Oktoberfest starts sixteen days before the first Sunday in October. In New York, that’s as good a reason as any for suds and a sausage.

  1. 1. August

    359 Bleecker St., nr. Charles St.; 212-929-4774

    From September 11 to 17, menu specials include a $28 sausage supper for two.

  2. 2. Spiegel Beer Garden

    Pier 17, South Street Seaport;

    The Spiegeltent’s run ends October 1, and so does your chance to sip an alfresco lager under the stars—and the belly of the Brooklyn Bridge.

  3. 3. Soho Park

    62 Prince St., at Lafayette St.; 212-219-2129

    Substitute a Wisconsin brat for a German wurst and a Sixpoint Righteous Rye for a Kölsch at Soho’s newest beer garden.

  4. 4. Zum Schneider

    107 Ave. C, at 7th St.; 212-598-1098

    O’zapft is! Stop by September 16 for the ceremonial tapping of the first Oktoberfest keg, done “simultaneously” (via satellite TV) with the lord mayor of Munich.

  5. 5. Loreley

    7 Rivington St., nr. bowery; 212-253-7077

    To mark the Biergarten’s third anniversary on October 3, a whole suckling pig will be paraded through the premises and then washed down with plenty of seasonally appropriate beverages.
