Fix Your iPhone’s Most Annoying Problem With This Excellent MP3

Think for a second. Have you ever plugged your phone in to a car speaker and had a track — probably the first track you’ve got on your device with a title that starts with the letter A — immediately start to play? For me, it’s the Act 1 overture from Gilbert and Sullivan’s fairy opera Iolanthe. (I am very fun at parties.) It’s a pain, albeit a funny one, every time it plays. And, if you’re like me, you don’t remember it until the next time you plug your phone in and it happens again. Rinse and repeat.

Samir Mezrahi has devised a solution for this problem. His track, a soundless song entitled “A a a a a Very Good Song,” is now available on iTunes and Google Play, and given the track name, should be the first thing that plays on your device. For the low, low price of $0.99, you can buy yourself nearly ten minutes — the length of the track — of silence when you first plug in your phone. Which gives you plenty of time to decided what music, if any, you actually want to listen to. “Help me reach my lifelong dream of having a number one song in the world on itunes by downloading my single,” reads Mezrahi’s Twitter bio. As of Thursday afternoon, “A a a a a Very Good Song” wasn’t No. 1, but it was moving steadily up the charts, seated at spot No. 69. Nice.
