Offer someone a glass of Lambrusco and they’ll shoot you a snide look of disgust. This red sparkling wine has suffered from a reputation à la white zinfandel and, until recently, I might have believed this was deserved. But then I started spending time at Centovini, my new favorite restaurant and wine bar, where the incredibly knowledgeable Nicola Marzovilla introduced me to Ca’ De’ Medici Il Mantovano. It’s a gorgeous dark red pour, tangy with the perfect amount of fizz, and cheap!
About $15 at Centovini, 25 W. Houston St., near Greene St.; 212-219-2113; centovinibar.com.
