This Club Monaco dress may look simple, but its structure elicited gasps from my fashion-obsessed friends. It’s made from canvas, belted at the waist, and paneled at the back with folded fabric and nautical buttons. You can wear it alone at night or—like me—slide a white tank underneath it for daytime. Its inspiration may be a classic trench coat, but thanks to the slim shape and low-cut back, your look will be anything but old-fashioned.
