Traditionalists have sworn by Essie's Sugar Daddy hue for years. It's clean and natural, and it filled the void left by the long-abandoned French manicure (although you may spot a few holdovers on the subway). Starter Wife, the latest color from the brand, is super-shiny and has the slightest hint of pink. The high gloss and sheer shade will balance out the futuristic heels and voluminous dresses of the season.
$8 at Samuel Shriqui, 37 E. 65th St., nr. Madison Ave.; 212-223-7157.
