The Best Bet

Polish aside, the best confidence booster for an old pair of wing tips is a new set of shoelaces. That’s where Stolen Riches’ skinny unisex laces (available at Michael Andrews Bespoke, 2 Great Jones Alley, nr. Broadway; 212-677-1755) step in. The brainchild of fourth-generation textile manufacturer David Barclay, the dyed, nylon-core line comes in predictable black, white, and gray, but also eggplant purple, army green, sunny yellow, neon pink, traffic-cone orange, and other sassy hues. Laces are capped with gold, silver, or gunmetal aglets—a chic-er alternative to plastic—and sold in two lengths: 32-inch for oxfords ($17.50) and 72-inch for boots ($19.50).
