How many ways are there to improve on the basic messenger bag? Lots, it turns out. For starters, the new Belkin Ceylon Messenger has a “built-in stability” feature, which means the bottom is designed so the bag can stand up on its own, making it easier to load. It’s got a pocket for your laptop that’s padded in plush, fuzzy fabric that’s worthy of a baby’s crib. In addition to the expected array of smaller inner pockets for stowing papers, pens, and so on, there’s a hidden center handle that pops up if you grow weary of using the shoulder strap. And it comes in four subdued color combinations (gray with lavender accents, black/gray, gray/green, and gray/blue). One note: It’s made to accommodate bigger laptops—up to 15.4 inches—so it’s relatively wide overall (17 inches), but its water-resistant nylon makes it surprisingly lightweight.
