I thought I was the last person in New York to hear of French Sole, the best place to buy ballet flats. But after buying my leopard-print-on-haircalf pair and having so many allegedly in-the-know people asking where I got them, I figured it was worth saying yet again. French Sole is a twenty-plus-year-old store the size of a shoe box, where salesgirls run up and down ladders to fetch dozens of different styles of ballet flats. Just go and you’ll see what I mean. (They have an extensive selection online, but it’s best to try these on in-person.)
$150 at French Sole, 985 Lexington Ave., at 71st St.; 212-737-2859; frenchsoleshoes.com.
