America’s Swede Hearts

Posted March 29, 2006
If you don’t love the Sounds yet, you will now. The feisty Swedish pop rock band finally unleashed their latest album, Dying to Say This to You, stateside this month, and the hype is worth it. On vocals is pint-sized Maja Ivarsson, who looks like a pixie in person but acts like Mick Jagger onstage. Her wails and growls are carried by the nimble guitar and drumming skills of four lanky lads in skinny jeans, who make powerful but not screechy songs. And for some added New York cred, those are Manhattan It-Girls Alexis Paige and Leigh Lezark on the album cover. I uploaded every track onto my iPod’s "subway mix" to drown out loud commuters, but the album’s also great for house parties, where rooftop dance music is mandatory.
