We thought about joining the money panic and hiding our gold bars under our mattress, until we realized we don’t have any. Still, we’ll take our precious metal where we can get it, and these days we prefer it in the cozy confines of our home. Which is why the Tod candleholders from Brooklyn designer Jean Pelle gave us a warm feeling immediately. The Douglas-fir pair boasts a top-to-bottom sliver of 24-karat gold leaf, adding a touch of richness to an otherwise natural appearance. And the unevenness of the two—one’s eleven and a half inches tall, the other’s thirteen and a half—just looks plain hot on display. Sure, there are other ways to light up your home over the holidays, but tangled strings of mini-bulbs simply don’t hold a candle to these.
