Silicone may get a bad rap in certain circles, but the flexible material rules when it comes to kitchen tools. Technicolor pot holders, baking pans, and basting brushes have been flooding the zone for years, but our current favorite offering is Poach Pods. These petite, heat-resistant cups make turning out flawless poached eggs virtually foolproof. Simply plop the Pod into a saucepan of simmering water (it floats!), crack in an egg, and cover for four to six minutes depending on your preference. The finished product slides out easily and goes perfectly with bacon and toast for a tasty (and recession-friendly) at-home brunchmimosas not included.
$9.99 for two at the Brooklyn Kitchen, 616 Lorimer St., Brooklyn.
