The Dress:
I designed and sewed it myself, which was crazy. No one does that, but I was just two years out of fashion school and took so much pride in it. Preparing for my wedding inspired me to become a bridal designer because I couldn't find anything simple. It was 1985, and the magazines all showed these ridiculous mermaid dresses and puffy creations with dangling beads. Had I gone with the mermaid, I would probably be hiding right now.

Looking Back:
We invited our families, and my parents traveled from Ethiopia, so I wanted to look like a bride. Had the wedding been a party with just my friends, my dress would have been drop-dead sexy couture.
