Go Your Own Way: Boutonnieres

There’s no law that says your boutonnieres need to be made of flowers. More and more couples seeking something distinctive are looking beyond the bouquet for inspiration.

Why not enlist a local designer to come up with a boutonniere made of vintage fabric or scraps of material from your gown or the bridesmaids’ dresses? Queens-based artist Dominique Railey (800-398-2690, ext. 7) will custom-design silk flowers or virtually anything you can imagine. Carolyn Shea of Sheashells (800-618-0697) specializes in beach elements such as shells and sea glass. Or do it yourself: Roll up leaves or grass in a white ribbon for a simple, natural look, or use autumn leaves.
