Go Your Own Way: Cakes

More and more couples are choosing not to have traditional tiered cakes at their weddings, opting instead for alternatives like Krispy Kreme towers, fondue fountains, and the French croquembouche. Our favorite new idea? Consider replacing each table's traditional floral arrangement with its own dessert centerpiece. A good pastry chef will thank you for the chance to put on a virtuoso performance and whip up a menu featuring everything from chocolate-bourbon pie to Russian tea cake to plum-rhubarb cobbler. Rather than focusing attention on the one formal cake, this option encourages guests to mingle as they circle the room, sampling different centerpieces and sharing opinions as they go.
