ABC Carpet & Home
888 Broadway, at 19th St.
212-473-3000
abchome.com

This cavernous space full of ultraluxe linens, furniture, and home accessories doesn’t have a traditional registry, but you can set up a request-specific gift-certificate program for friends to contribute to. Every time they do, ABC will notify you, and you can pick up the accumulated credit. The hard part is picking from their vast selection: You’ll find sheet sets from companies like Frette (from $420), plus endless throws, pillows, quilts, and even Moroccan tapestries.

Armani Casa
97 Greene St., nr. Prince St.

This offshoot of the Italian fashion mainstay is a favorite for couples who want muted, contemporary items that will blend well with any apartment. Make an appointment to pick out everything from a platinum-rimmed celadon Limoges dinner setting (dinner plate, dessert plate, bread-and-butter dish, and cup and saucer, $550) to a silver vase ($95).

Baccarat

Baccarat uses lighting on its crystal to great dramatic effect: You're drawn to the glow. Couples drawn to the registry can pick out stemware, vases, candlesticks, and more (from $60).

Barneys New York

The inimitable collection of private-label tabletop stuff at this edgy-fashion mecca makes it a great resource for couples who already have all the basics. Changes or additions to your registry (including guests’ purchases) are instantly updated at the New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles stores simultaneously. And there’s no better place to exchange your gifts for store credit; the options are limitless.

Whether you’re outfitting an Orchard Street studio or a Park Avenue duplex, you’ll want to register here for kitchen things, tableware, and a good selection of towels and everyday linens (queen sheet sets are a modest $40–$200). Brands include Cuisinart, Mikasa, Dansk, Calphalon, All-Clad, Nautica, and Wamsutta. Look for Nicole Miller’s exclusive line of bedding and bath ($15–$400). The registry service offers consultations and free gift packaging.

Bergdorf Goodman
754 Fifth Ave., at 58th St.
212-753-7300

Bergdorf does things the old-fashioned way—a consultant advises couples and writes down what they choose. There’s no online registry and no running through the store with a scanning wand. The seventh floor is packed with luxe tableware merchandised in glamorous vignettes (china runs from $80 to more than $6,000 per five-piece place setting). Classics from Lalique, Cristal Saint-Louis, and Bernardaud square off with modern works by designers like Ted Meuhling. Vintage silver and barware, too.

Bernardaud

Register here for swank Limoges porcelain and French silver and crystal. When friends buy something, you’ll receive a gift notice and either have the item delivered or pick it up at your leisure. Sterling silver (from $695 a setting) and crystal (from $60), too.

The expansive sixth floor has bottle openers, salad spinners, cookware (All-Clad, Calphalon), and small appliances (KitchenAid, Krups). You’ll also find loads of china, crystal, and silverware. Prestige china starts at $99. They carry every imaginable kind of bedding, too.

Bridge Kitchenwares
214 E. 52nd St., nr. Third Ave.
212-688-4220
bridgekitchenware.com

The pros-only atmosphere at this restaurant supplier and retailer can be intimidating, but salespeople are surprisingly helpful and are even willing to open the store early on Saturdays for couples who make appointments to pick top-quality cookware and small appliances for their registries. When you’re spending up to $120 on a single knife, you’ll appreciate the expert advice.

Calvin Klein
654 Madison Ave., at 60th St.
212-292-9000

This spare, minimalist shop is a perfect backdrop for Klein’s luxe mix-and-match tableware. China comes in a range of colors and patterns ($60–$195 for a five-piece place setting), with wooden or metal accents (salad plates, chargers, and so on). You’ll also find similarly chic, understated linens (a queen-size Collection duvet will run you about $400). After you sign on with one of the registry specialists, you’ll get a free gift; when it’s all over, you’ll receive 10 percent off any remaining items on your wish list.
