On the industrial border between Greenpoint and Williamsburg, a few minutes’ walk from the L train’s Bedford stop, is Gutter (200 N. 14th St., nr. Wythe Ave.; 718-387-3585), a new bar with eight bowling lanes. The retro-rec-room tone is set by comfy pleather captains’ chairs at the bar and hanging stained-glass lamps that advertise blue-collar beers. Even the computer controlling the bowling lanes dates back at least 25 years. The beer selection, however, is more up-to-date. Gutter has twelve craft beers on draft, including Sixpoint Sweet Action and Climax E.S.B., (from $5 a pint) as well as a full bar with mixed drinks (from $6). Bowling costs a reasonable $7 per game (or about $42 per hour for parties of four or more), though a no-reservations policy and high demand mean you might have to drink a few beers while you wait.
