The recession and soaring gold prices may have put a damper on the city’s jewelry scene, but it is brightening of late. Red-carpet go-to Kara Ross marks her line’s tenth anniversary with an inaugural storefront on November 13 (29 E. 60th St., at Madison Ave.; 212-755-8100), featuring lizard-print cuffs (from $235) and other statement pieces. Meanwhile, Orchard Street heirloom haven Doyle and Doyle will relocate to a much grander, 2,000-square-foot space on November 15 (412 W. 13th St., nr. Ninth Ave.; 212-677-9991); wall-mounted glass cases house period jewels like a gold Victorian locket ($695) and an Edwardian diamond-and-pearl mesh bracelet ($9,800). Coming December 7, Van Cleef & Arpels (744 Fifth Ave., at 57th St.; 212-896-9284) will unveil an eleven-month renovation, complete with a new bridal salon and VIP room.
