Here at the Strategist we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy (like bed sheets or pillows), but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we’re introducing People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ‘em) products and single out the most convincing. Here, the best comforters on Amazon, according to the people (note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity).
Super-fluffy and warm
4.7 stars, 971 reviews
“After having lost my super-favorite down comforter in a house fire, I was looking for a suitable replacement. After reading what feels like two days’ worth of reviews of all kinds of comforters and duvet inlets, down, and down alternatives, I ordered and sent back four (!!) of them. I wanted a allergy-safe, FLUFFY mid-weight, with a cotton-feel cover, that behaves like real down but is shift-proof. Yes, I know … a lot to ask, BUT I finally found it, and OMG I love, love, love this one. I would totally recommend this comforter!!! After getting it out of the bag, I recommend shaking it out to start the fluffing up. Since I am so impressed with this comforter, I looked at what else this “Hanna Kay” company has, and I ordered the mattress-protector cover thing. It came yesterday, and it’s PERFECT as well. So all in all, I’m VERY happy. It’s the fluff! That kind of fluff I am used to from my German real down comforter, this one has it.”
High thread count

“Wonderful weight and size. We needed to replace a down blanket ruined by a house-sitter. Decided to go with this comforter because of the thread count, fill, size, and price. Could not be happier. Arrived on time. No smell, as some other reviews may talk about on other products. Very full, no flattening noticed, and just love the weight of it when snuggled in for the night. Cannot wait for winter to come (or whatever winter consists of in Texas) to see if we even need another blanket to accompany this comforter. I looked at many different down comforters on different sites and in stores, and I am so pleased with this purchase. Much more luxurious and well constructed than those I saw in stores for $200 to $300 more.”

“When I say that I had been on the hunt for a BIG, FLUFFY, HUGE, CLOUDLIKE bedding for three years, I’m not exaggerating at all. I watched YouTube videos, read all the reviews, did all the research for me to feel like I know what it’s going to take to make that dreamy bed come true. Step one: order a size larger than your bed. I got a king for my queen-size mattress. That alone makes it feel big and luxurious. This comes in a very airtight vacuum-seal bag, but once you open it, it plumps right up! I ordered a duvet cover for it, but you can definitely leave it as is.”

“Pros: luxuriously soft, plush/fluffy, perfect fit, just the right weight, crisp white color
Where has this been all my life? I have always wanted a really plush blanket like the ones you see on Pinterest, but I didn’t want to pay several hundred dollars for one. I was quite hesitant about buying this blanket because the pictures don’t look very fluffy, and I was skeptical of the price. I admit, when I pulled the blanket out it still didn’t look fluffy, but after squeezing it and lying on it, I was impressed.
The comforter itself is very soft. The blanket is too comfortable for its own good. The fill on the inside is so much nicer than cotton-filled comforters. The weight of the blanket is perfect for year-round use for me and my husband. It’s not heavy, but it’s not light either. If you’re someone who gets extremely hot at night, this might not be the right summertime comforter for you though, because it is well insulated.”

“I have been wanting to take the leap and get all-white bed linens just like my favorite five-star hotels, but I worried about committing to something that would be difficult to keep nice. Lavish Comforts solved my problem with this duvet. It is machine washable and has easy-care fabric, while still having the appearance and feel of luxury material. For the price, excellent customer service, and quality, you will not be disappointed.
Editing to add that I have now washed it and it remains the same shape. I worried that the squares might become wadded messes of cheap filler, but no. I was careful to remove, fluff, and return to the dryer two to three times while drying.”
More streamlined than fluffy

“The sheet is plush and warm, but not very heavy, which I like. It does hold heat in incredibly well. All I use is this comforter and a thin top sheet in the middle of winter, and it is plenty warm. Sometimes I lie on top of the comforter because it is so soft, but can still keep me warm. The only caveat to my love of this item is that it does seem to wrinkle easily. Overall, this item is amazing, and because the price is so low, I am giving it five stars. I would expect an item like this to cost upward of $100.
Pros: soft, warm, reversible, nice pattern. This comforter really is, especially for the price, one of the best items on Amazon.
Cons: The comforter is thin, which some people don’t like.”

“I searched and searched for a nice, soft comforter that is lightweight enough to use here in Texas. The comforter is for me, my husband, and our two dogs on our California king bed. We don’t need any more heat or warmth at night. Save yourself the time researching. If you want a lightweight comforter, go ahead and get this one. The tabs in the corners are nice because they keep the comforter evenly spread out inside the duvet. The fill is nice, soft, and down-y-feeling, but without the allergens.”

“It is SO soft. It’s like sleeping on clouds, I swear. The white is WHITE-white, and I love it. It makes it look so clean and crisp. I was worried it might be too hot to use, especially in the summer months, but it is literally perfect. It’s thin, but still fluffy and puffy, so you get that expensive down look without the bulky, hot heaviness. It’s August in California (no air conditioners) and I’m able to use it every single night. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to use another blanket again. I have been spoiled by this one.
One added bonus for those that hate making their beds: You can literally throw this on your bed, straighten a few corners, and you’re done. It’s the easiest blanket I’ve ever worked with. I have made my bed maybe a total of 50 times before I got this blanket. Now I make it every single morning because it really only takes a second. You should seriously, seriously consider investing in one of these. It’s cheap and feels like a million bucks. This blanket may contain the following: cotton candy, cloud fluff, dolphin skin, baby butts, and/or marshmallows.”

“I am so happy I bought this comforter after looking through so many other options on Amazon. Down was too expensive, and the down alternative comforters had very mixed reviews overall, this one had good reviews (but not suspiciously good), so I took my chances. WOW! This comforter is so soft, the fabric is silky, and even after going through a gentle wash, it’s in perfect shape. I feel like a spy or something for getting such a good deal on a really wonderful product. Only complaint is that I find it hard to leave my bed in the morning now, because it’s so cozy!”
