The Best Dog Boots, Coats, and Vests on Amazon, According to Hyperenthusiastic Reviewers

Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy (like pillows), but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ’em) products and single out the most convincing. While we’ve written before about the best travel accessories for small dogs, found the best dog costumes on Amazon, even interviewed Doug the Pug about his favorite treats and toys, we rounded up the best dog boots, coats, and vests on Amazon to keep your dog warm and safe this winter. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)

Best water-resistant dog boots with grips

4.3 stars, 1,072 reviews

“The size 8 was just right for my snow-loving 60-70-pound standard poodle … For these, he stands patiently like a gentleman when I put them on, they clearly don’t bother him. At first I worried it didn’t look like there was enough bend at the ankle and I was resistant to snug the ankle straps. Go ahead, snug up the straps, you need to in order to keep the boot on and they flex just fine. We go for 2-3 mile runs and he is perfectly happy in his boots. They do a great job protecting his feet from snow, salt, and ice. I’m planning to buy another set because inevitably a boot will be lost eventually and we have a lot of snowy days ahead of us!”

Best breathable all-terrain dog boots with grips

4.2 stars, 108 reviews

“I bought these for my Australian Shepherd so he could go on the sand dunes with me. All I can say is that I love them! They fit perfectly and stay on pretty well. There is a little adjusting to do but they didn’t come off once. I also got many compliments on them, saying I’m a good pet parent for looking out for my pup. So for any of you that are worried that they won’t work on sand, they do! The only hassle is that the sand gets in them so they can be a little messy to clean up but definitely worth it if you’re considering lots of outdoor trekking with your fuzzy buddy.”

Best waterproof fleece-lined dog coat

4.4 stars, 1,659 reviews

“I live in New England and needed a coat for my short haired coonhound. She loves to play in the snow so I wanted something that would work with her activity level, and so far this coat has been great! The fleece lining (camo design) is a good weight and helps to keep her warm, and keeps the coat on her back. The Velcro is strong and heavy duty, so it does not pull away from the fabric with lots of use, like some other wimpier Velcro-attached items I have purchased. It is easy to put on her and take off, and I can put her harness over it once I loosen the harness a bit to accommodate the thickness of the coat.”

Best lightweight dog coat

4.4 stars, 749 reviews

“I have a very grumpy little poodle who needs a coat in the winter, but I need to be able to get it on and off quickly for him to tolerate it. This has velcro on the bottom, so the only maneuvering we have to do is sliding it over his head (I don’t have to lift his paws up or anything), so it’s perfect. Also love that I have the option to use it with a harness underneath. Despite being advertised as reversible, I don’t quite agree because the velcro would stick to his fur if I put the grey side out (maybe it’s just a poodle problem). However, I like the red color and don’t think I’d want to put the grey side out anyway.”

Best padded, water-resistant dog vest

4.6 stars, 668 reviews

“This jacket is by far the easiest to put on our dog (Boston Terrier). We’ve had a number of jackets, because she is a short-haired dog but needs exercise even in cold weather, and I am actually impressed with how much better and easier this jacket works for her. Just step in, pick up, and zip. It doesn’t impede her travels and squirrel-chasing or have rub spots like many of her other coats. It provides good coverage, keeps mud and road grit off her belly, is water-resistant outside [with a] nice fleece lining on the inside for her. And it has the leash loops built in — she’s a hard puller when she sees a squirrel, but it shows no signs of ripping or weakening, so we haven’t had to use the harness with it.”

Best reversible plaid dog vest

4.1 stars, 828 reviews

“My dog absolutely loves this! It is so cute and perfect for my pitbull. She has short hair and shivers when she’s out in the cold Idaho weather. So this was the perfect solution! And she absolutely loves it and will not let me take it off of her!”

Best fleece dog vest

4.2 stars, 2,425 reviews

“My Boston Terrier and I absolutely love this vest. It’s fleece so she’s warm enough in it on a cool day or night, and it’s thin enough that she can wear a jacket over it in the winter. She seems to be more comfortable in this than any other clothing we’ve bought; she prefers to sleep through the night with it on when it’s chilly. I think part of the comfort is due to the roomy arm holes so she never feels constricted like she does in a lot of other items, plus it’s really the perfect fit for her shape too, and it has a little bit of stretch to it. The metal ring on the back is an awesome final touch; she’s not too crazy of a puller on a leash so it’s really nice to be able to just hook the leash to this jacket to run her outside without having to put a harness or a collar on her, and the metal ring has held up nicely without tearing away from the vest, even though we use it all the time.”

Best yellow dog raincoat

4.1 stars, 914 reviews

“I am so thankful to the reviews that people leave because they have helped me find the perfect raincoat for my dog. The material is just like raincoat material (not like a wind breaker). It is good quality, durable material! The medium fit was perfect for my dog!! Granted, the hood doesn’t really work, but for my Cavalier King Charles, not many do! I am so very happy with this purchase!”
