The Best Steam Mops on Amazon, According to Hyperenthusiastic Reviewers

Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy (like pillows), but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ‘em) products and single out the most convincing. While we’ve written about our favorite vacuums here before, along with the best robot vacuums, mop slippers, even a giant lint roller for pet hair, we decided to expand our cleaning-supply coverage to include bacteria-killing mops. Here, the best steam mops on Amazon. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)

Best-rated steam mop, overall

Bissell 1940 PowerFresh Steam Mop
$79 at Amazon

“I love this mop, but I was skeptical at first. One guy said in a review that he would sleep with it. I told myself, you won’t ever love a cleaning appliance like that. But then I got this and cleaned all my floors today. Twice. That’s how dirty they were (I thought they were pretty clean!) I would absolutely sleep with this mop. It’s easy to use with NO SCRUBBING and no streaking on my laminate! What?! Yes. It’s that good. Order it. You won’t be disappointed.”

Best steam mop with triangle scrubber

Bissell Steam Mop Select
$60 at Amazon

“I was told that steam mops were not all they are cracked up to be, and I’m finicky when it comes to cleaning my house, especially my kitchen and dining floors, which are that luxury vinyl. First, DO NOT BUY luxury-vinyl tiles for your flooring. It looks so nice, but cleaning the floors are a bitch, man. But, I digress. This steam mop has cut hours off of my mop job. Yes, I am that anal. I sweep, vacuum, and then mop. I use both pads for cleaning and switch them out when they get dirty. I rinse them out and continue to use when they fill up with dirt. In my house, there is a lot of dirt with a boy, three dogs, and five cats. Oh, and pee. Lots and lots of pee.”

Best steam mop for spot-mopping

O-Cedar Microfiber Steam Mop
$65 at Amazon

“I have one of those tile floors that makes people curse. It shows every speck of dirt and water spot when mopped. To add to the challenge, I live where there is more dirt than manicured lawn and have two large dogs. My daughter, who researches EVERYTHING, got one of these and was so impressed that she brought it with her on her last visit so that I could try it out. I did and then ordered one right away. It works well, and it’s much less hassle than my old method of mopping. It makes it easy to spot-mop without dedicating an entire morning to the process. The only improvement I would like to see is a way to add a scent or my preferred cleaning solution, because I miss the smell of a freshly mopped floor. Even so, I’m quite happy with my purchase.”

Best steam mop with double-sided scrubber

Shark Steam Pocket Mop
$56 at Amazon

“Now I know products like these get bad raps, and they can be hit or miss with their longevity. That’s all a given. I’ve taken every measure to treat mine with tender love and care to hopefully maintain it’s life span. Steamer mops are AWESOME! With this one, I really dig how you can flip the head over to utilize the other side of the cloth. You get two cloths in the box. I bought it because we were housing some friends during Hurricane Irma who had dogs, and literally EVERY square inch of floor had to be cleaned. Too big a job for the ol’ knees, you know? I love the ‘OCD’-perfect results. And I LOVE knowing the floors are sanitized without the use of toxic chemicals. Filling it with water is VERY easy with the li’l plastic, spouted cup. It’s simple to use and heats up quickly, in like a minute or so. I’m way happy with it.”

Best steam mop with three steam settings

Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop
$114 at Amazon

“Loved this Shark Ninja [though I] was a little dubious about using it on my laminated floor, so I did the floor in a closet and used the light steam. The floor was sealed well, and it worked great, so now along with my tile floors, I can also do the laminated ones also, all in one shot. I particularly love how fast the floors dry. I would also recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing this machine to get the replacement mops, especially when doing large areas. I am 80 years old and it’s a piece of cake handling this.”

Best all-in-one steam mop and vacuum

Bissell CrossWave Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vacuum
$250 at Amazon

“Okay, so I waited a couple of months to try this and then do a review. I have to say, this machine is awesome! I live in a fully tiled house in the desert with six big dogs. I clean about two times a week, and I’ve used this on the carpet in our house, too. The only problem is that I go through the solution you can buy from Bissell so fast. I decided to try the Mr. Clean concentrated cleaner, and I just put two drops into the whole bottle of water.”

Best steam mop with detachable scrub brush

Bissell 1806C Powerfresh Deluxe Steam Mop
$89 at Amazon

“I can’t stop bragging about my new steam mop! I had the older Bissell model that did not have the scrub brush, and I loved it, but after three years of use it broke … Got [this newer model] on sale on Prime Day and expected it to be the same as the old one. It is NOT! It’s by far superior and better in all aspects — but the most amazing thing that was not expected even after reading the reviews is what it did to my grout. It was black, eight years’ worth of dirt, grime, and two toddlers with lots of spills and food on the floor. It got so clean I could not believe it. It’s beige again! I did not use any chemicals or additives, just plain water on high steam setting using the scrub brush and a little elbow grease. AMAZING RESULTS! It was almost like magic.”

Best steam mop with detachable garment steamer

Shark Steam Pocket Mop Hard Floor Cleaner With Lift Away Garment Steamer
$160 at Amazon

“I love this lift-away steam mop. It has three settings, so if you need it to, it can put out significantly more steam than the basic steam mops. I also like the flip head, so that when one side gets dirty, you can flip it and keep going. But my favorite feature of all is the lift away. It lets you get three times more use out of it than just a regular steamer. You can use the small attachment and steam clean and sanitize any surface: kitchen counters, bathroom counters, faucets, cabinets, you name it. It also comes with an attachment that lets you use it as a garment steamer. For me, this really provides the best bang for your buck and makes it so easy and convenient to use it to clean all your surfaces without using harsh chemicals. At first, I thought maybe the water tank was a little on the small side, but I rarely run out of steam before finishing a job. Highly recommend.”

Best steam mop for large spaces

Light ‘n’ Easy Steam Mop
$115 at Amazon

“I own a Pilates and fitness studio that is 2,100 square feet of nearly all-wood flooring. Mopping the floor is a major undertaking and must be done frequently due to the foot traffic AND the high volume of barefoot/hand contact and sweat from daily fitness and Pilates classes. I only wish I had found this device sooner! … The steam mop was out of the box, assembled, and put to work in a matter of five minutes. The fabric piece that attaches to the mop head to clean the floor takes about 30 seconds to become wet enough to move freely across the floor … After using the steam mop, the floor is ridiculously clean. It has likely never been cleaner. It is literally ‘squeaky-clean’ — my shoes squeak as I walk across the floor. The steam mop did not leave water stains on the floor (like the twist mop did), so the final finish is amazingly bright and shiny, as seen in the photos I’ve included. I will likely only ever use my twist mop again for dealing with large water spills (from dropping a bottle of water or the occasional plumbing issue).”
