The Best Knife Sharpeners on Amazon, According to Hyperenthusiastic Reviewers

Best Knife Sharpeners on Amazon, Man Sharpening Knife

Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ’em) products and single out the most convincing. While we’ve written about kitchen knife sets, cutting boards and butcher blocks, the best butter knife and steak knives, and even asked chefs to share their favorite kitchen knives, we’re rounding up the best knife sharpeners you can find on Amazon, so you can keep those knives slicing like new. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)

Best manual knife sharpener for $20

SunrisePro Knife Sharpener
$20 at Amazon

4.7 stars, 4,483 reviews

“Wow!!!! I am completely blown away. Just got this device this afternoon. And it works incredibly well. Sharpened all of my knives in less than 15 minutes. The blades are razor-sharp. The suction cup holds perfectly and is very stable. I have an electric professional sharpener with two honing blades, and this mighty midget outperforms it hands down. The only concern I have is for durability and longevity. It is mostly plastic, except the blades for sharpening and the rubber suction cup. This could limit its overall life span. What the heck — for the price, you could easily buy another one, or two. I love it!”

Best manual knife sharpener under $10

KitchenIQ 50009 Edge Grip 2 Stage Knife Sharpener, Green
$6 at Amazon

4.4 stars, 8,577 reviews

“I had let my Santoku knife go a bit too long without sharpening (maybe a few years …), but about a dozen passes on the ‘coarse’ side, followed by a handful on the ‘fine’ side, and it’s slicing through veggies like I just bought it! It’s smaller than I thought it would be, but definitely gets the job done! I like that the bottom is grippy, and the inverted V for stabilization is perfect. I’d definitely buy this again and recommend it to friends!”

Best manual knife sharpener with sharpening wheels

Rada Cutlery Quick Edge Knife Sharpener
$8 at Amazon

4.7 stars, 840 reviews

“When I first saw how small this sharpener was and how the steel wheels operated, I thought, No way is this going to do a good job sharpening the knives. Wow! Was I wrong. I took a Rada knife that had been heavily used for six months and had made multiple trips through the dishwasher, and had it shaving the hair off my arm in about 15 minutes.”

Best handheld knife sharpener

AccuSharp 001C Knife Sharpener
$10 at Amazon

4.7 stars, 4,242 reviews

“Purchased this knife sharpener a few months ago, and I am surprised about how well it works. I am a college student, so I don’t have the nicest knives, so they go dull pretty often. I run this thing over the blade a few times and BAM! It works like it was brand-new. This is very easy to use and lasts for quite a few sharpens … I sharpen the knives almost once a week due to them becoming dull so quickly, and I still haven’t replaced the metal inside. The shape of the handle is very nice and fits in the hand well for comfortable use. My mom has one of those electrical sharpeners, but I believe that this works just as well! Definitely would recommend if you have dull knives and are looking for a cheap way to get them sharpened.”

Best pocket-size knife sharpener

Smith’s PP1 Pocket Pal Multifunction Sharpener, Gray
$8 at Amazon

4.4 stars, 6,434 reviews

“I bought this to sharpen a number of knives. From kitchen knives to pocket knives, and even a couple of large Bowie knives. It handled all of them with ease and made them all razor-sharp again — even the small knife on my multi-tool that other sharpeners failed to sharpen. Great little tool to keep and carry. The small size makes it easy to take anywhere.”

Best two-stage electric knife sharpener for straight and serrated knives

Priority Chef Knife Sharpener for Straight and Serrated Knives
$18 at Amazon

4.4 stars, 2,327 reviews

“I LOVE THIS SHARPENER! I didn’t need to use the first slot, that’s for grinding a new edge. I used the second slot for honing. That’s all most knives need anyway. My knife is sharp again, which makes less work for me and makes it safer to use. Dull knives are very dangerous. This also works on serrated knives. My favorite serrated was getting dull, which didn’t thrill me too much. [Didn’t know] for sure what I was going to do. Figured I was going to have to buy a new one. Slot No. 2 brought my serrated back to life. Used it on my kitchen scissors, too. Very happy camper here. Buy this. Great sharpener.”

Best two-stage electric knife sharpener for straight knives only

Presto 08800 EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener
$26 at Amazon

4.3 stars, 3,224 reviews

“I bought this sharpener in 2014, it’s now 2018, and it’s still going strong. In fact, I just pulled out all of my straight-edged kitchen and dinner knives, and sharpened all of them. I have never had a problem with it; it is perfect for everything from my fillet knives to my cleaver. I try to keep up on sharpening my knives every now and then, so it’s usually only a few swipes on each side for ‘coarse’ side, and a few swipes on the right for the ‘fine’ side. I go slowly on the left, two to three seconds each swipe, and fast on the right, a second or so. Every time, I get a perfect, sharp edge, and depending on the quality of the knife, it lasts and lasts. It doesn’t take too much of the metal down either, just makes a lovely edge. This is one of my favorite purchases in my kitchen. I used to use manual sharpeners, but have long since thrown them away. Almost four years and still going strong. Excellent buy!”

Best three-stage electric knife sharpener for serious home cooks

Chef’s Choice 15 XV Trizor Professional Electric Knife Sharpener
$137 at Amazon

4.6 stars, 806 reviews

“I have many European and Asian knives. This is the first and (only) sharpener that sharpens them all — and does it better. Before I would never trust any electric sharpener to handle my custom Asian, Global one-sided and handmade fillet knives. This works. It makes short work of the European Henckels of the ’60s and ’70s (better than new). I had held off for the cost and wasted a few years with my stones. I doubt any knife person could be disappointed.”

Best multipurpose electric knife sharpener

Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener
$70 at Amazon

4.7 stars, 3,318 reviews

“This is the second knife sharpener I’ve purchased, and this one was a gift to my dad who was frequently using mine. I love this knife sharpener, as does he. We’ve both used it with great success on knives and blades — from pocket knives, scissors, kitchen knives, lawn-mower blades, to axes and hatchets, and I’m sure I’m forgetting things. Point is: We both use these knife sharpeners frequently, and they live up to the infomercial hype in my opinion.”

Best sharpening stone set

Smith’s Tri-6 Arkansas Tri-Hone Sharpening Stones System
$19 at Amazon

4.4 stars, 1,222 reviews

“My husband has been asking for a sharpening stone for a while, and I finally chose this three-sided system for him. I like that it comes with a stand so you can concentrate on sharpening your blade rather than trying to hold onto one of those tiny little stones. I really like that it has three different grits of stones in one system. It’s easy to set up and use. I am pretty new to sharpening my own knives, and I think this is great. My husband has been sharpening his own knives his entire life and he loves it too!”

Best coarse sharpening stone

Winco 12-Inch Fine/Grain Knife Sharpening Stone, Medium
$14 at Amazon

4.2 stars, 498 reviews

“I have been looking for a larger sharpening stone, so I was pleased to find this 12-inch stone. As some others have reported, while this states it is a fine stone, it is not. It has two grits, and one is very coarse, and I would rate the other as medium. I have a fine stone to finish the process, albeit a small one, but it works. I am very happy with the stone and would recommend it — but make sure you have a fine stone to finish.”

Best fine sharpening stone

Double-Sided Knife Sharpening Stone Multi-Colored — 600/1000 Grit
$18 at Amazon

4.6 stars, 284 reviews

“For my daily-use kitchen blades, this is the perfect stone! Not too coarse to destroy a blade’s edge, and also not too fine to not do anything. I’m not sharpening shaving razors, but after a few passes on the 1,000-grit side, many of my edges are sharper than they have ever been. This is a very nice size stone, and the rubber base works great keeping it in place. High-quality product, priced right, and shipped fast. Thank you!”

Best ceramic sharpening rod

Messermeister Ceramic Rod Knife Sharpener, 12-Inch
$35 at Amazon

4.5 stars, 513 reviews

“Great knife-edge maintainer!!! This is the best sharpener I’ve used for keeping a keen edge on your best kitchen knives. It’s primarily for the last step in maintaining a keen edge on the knives you use every day. It’s not for neglected knives that need a significant amount of metal removed. This would be great for maintaining a new set of quality cutlery. If you are looking for perfection to keep your best knives in top shape, this is the unit to get … I find that half to one dozen strokes every so often will keep your knives as sharp as the day you got them.”

Best angled sharpening system for beginners

Tri-Angle Sharpmaker
$57 at Amazon

4.6 stars, 1,964 reviews

“The Sharpmaker is easy to use, even for a beginner to sharpening, such as myself. Before purchasing the Sharpmaker, I got a sharpening stone as an introduction to sharpening. I failed miserably trying to get comfortable with the sharpening stone, since I was unable to utilize consistent angles of the blade when sharpening. In contrast, the Sharpmaker requires no guessing. You simply hold the knife perfectly straight and run the blade down the rods in the 40- or 30-degree setting. Easy and simple … Similar to how every household should have a set of tools and a first-aid kit, the Sharpmaker is necessary because there is no reason to have a dull knife lying around the house.”
