Hair care, for women and men, is a personal process that stands to benefit from the feedback of a crowd. I’m not talking about how you look, but what you use. If everyone says a certain detangling brush will keep your hair knot-free for life, it’s probably worth a go. If you’ve been buying random drugstore razors your whole life, but nine out of ten women say they avoid razor burn from one specific brand, chances are you should try that, too. So we went straight to the obsessive testers of Amazon’s reviews section for the best women’s razors of all types (and oh, boy, were they excited to talk about “mowing the lawn” for this one). (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)

“Even though these are some superexpensive razors, I continue to buy them for several different reasons.
1. I have very sensitive skin, but these don’t cause me any problems.
2. It’s so much easier to shave without shaving cream.
3. I always get a smooth shave with it.
4. They last a surprisingly long time! I shave pretty often, since I live in Florida and wear shorts all year round; plus, we go swimming multiple times a week. I get at least three to four weeks per cartridge with these.”
Refillable razor with trimmer

“The razor component wasn’t anything special. It did it’s job, but the real winner of this product is the trimmer. It makes clearing up armpits and pubic hair much easier. I for one can’t shave those areas, as they are very prone to razor burn, but this trimmer allows me to keep things maintained and looking neat and hygienic, without all the gross red bumps. I give it four stars, only because I found the guard over the trimmer to not be particularly effective, and have just started using the product without it. If you’re careful and slow, it’s very unlikely you’ll knick your skin and cause bleeding. I’ve even used it on my face on occasion, when I’ve let the hair grow out too long for a razor to be comfortably used, and have had no issues with cutting the skin, even without the guard.”
This is currently unavailable, but the new Silk version is practically identical.

“I’ve purchased these before, a long while back, but have never written a review on them. These are the best razors around for a woman. They provide a very, very close shave that does not pull, hurt, cut, nip, or do anything else except remove the hair, and remove it very closely. Even the next day, over 24 hours later (depending on how fast your hair grows), your skin is almost as smooth as it was before it was shaved the day before. I use this on very small areas that put very little wear on the razor; thus, I can use them for a very long time. No other razor has ever come this “close” — pun intended — when it comes to performance. This product is absolutely the best! Try them and you’ll stay with them.”
Affordable electric razor

“I wasn’t sure I believed the hype about this razor, but I figured, for the price, it was worth a shot to combat my chronic bikini-area-razor-burn issues. Let me tell you, I will never go back to shaving my bikini area with a razor again. This product is fantastic! The pop-up trimmer handled some of the longer hairs very well; I just used that all over first. Then the foil shaver got a nice, smooth shave. No bumps or nicks like I used to get from shaving with a razor. I also tried it on my legs, and loved it as well. I’m going to recommend this to all my female friends, and will probably purchase some as gifts. I think this is a must-have product for every woman.”
Splurgy electric razor

“I bought this, concerned because of the mixed reviews [a lot of people say it’s very painful]. No need to worry. I have used this on my legs, underarms, and bikini area with fabulous results. Hair grows in different stages, so in the beginning, you need to use it more frequently; as you continue, you need to use it less and less often, and it is less and less painful. Even in the beginning, it is less painful than waxing, and the purchase is less than a couple trips to get waxed.”

“This is so much better for sculpting my little lawn. Before, I was using hair clippers, and I found with those, it covered too much space, and I wasn’t able to be precise about what spots were longer and shorter. This is tinier and precise. The guard is great. I did find, though, that for the really tricky areas where I needed it close to the skin and a very close trim, the guard made it difficult to cut, so I took off the guard and used it very carefully.”

“I used to wax my face once a week. My entire face. Cheeks, chin, sideburns, eyebrows, mustache, even under my chin and jaw. I did this because my hair is thick and dark, so I felt uncomfortable with my self-image. Ever since I bought this trimmer, I don’t need to wax anymore. I trim my facial hair once a week, and I get about the same results if I wax. It’s a very close trim.”
