The Best Women’s Winter Hats on Amazon, According to Hyperenthusiastic Reviewers

Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy (like pillows), but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ’em) products and single out the most convincing ones. While we’ve written before about other cold-weather accessories before, like gloves and mittens, scarves, and boots, here we’ve rounded up the best winter hats for women, according to the people.

Best women’s merino wool hats

Minus33 Merino Wool Ridge Cuff Beanie

“I have become something of a wool nut after discovering merino wool socks a few years back, and for some reason, this was one of the few things I hadn’t tried yet. This hat is very comfy and warm, but I don’t overheat, just as one would expect with a good-quality merino wool product. It fits my moderately big head nicely, and one of my favorite things about it is that it’s fairly long. I have found too many hats like this are just too short to pull down past the tips of your ears, much less roll over on the bottom. This one is really just perfect for me.”

Blueberry Uniforms Merino Wool Beanie Hat

“This basic, no-frills beanie does the job. You can turn the bottom up as much as you need, so it fits well. It is not thick or fluffy, so you can wear it underneath the hood of your jacket if you need extra protection. It is lightweight, so you can throw it in a backpack in case the weather turns cold while you are out hiking. Some wool hats can be scratchy, but this one is quite smooth and comfortable to wear. I have worn it in winter temperatures as low as 20 degrees and it has done a great job of protecting my head and ears from the wind and the cold.”

Best women’s cashmere hats

Fishers Finery Women’s 100% Pure Cashmere Slouchy Beanie

“I have to say, I bought this and an almost identical cashmere beanie from Bloomingdale’s for literally twice the price. I compared them both and this one won out hands down; it’s thicker, better quality, has about 30 percent more ‘flop’ to it, and came with much better packaging. Not to mention it was half the price. Sadly I just lost it but I loved it so much that I am buying a new one right now.”

Fishers Finery Women’s 100% Pure Cashmere Cable Knit Hat

“The cashmere fabric is luscious, very high quality, beautiful, and soft (as advertised). This hat was also less expensive than some other brands I found online, without any sacrifice in terms of quality. The price — for cashmere — is highly reasonable. This is my first Amazon review but I was compelled to type out this recommendation because I loved the product so much. I suggest buying for yourself or as a gift.”

Best women’s fleece hats

Columbia Sportswear Thermarator Hat

“Wow — this is the best little cap I’ve ever had. You can actually feel it keeping the heat in! Perfect for any cold-weather situation. I just love this thing. It works better at keeping me warm than even a giant fur-lined hat that I have.”

Original Turtle Fur Fleece Beanie

“I actually have two of these Turtle Fur hats: this heavyweight one and the lighter-weight one and I love them both. We just had our first snowstorm of the season and I wore this along with my Turtle Fur neck gaiter while I was out shoveling and cleaning off my car. I was completely comfortable even though it was about thirty degrees with a windchill in the low twenties. My head and ears were cozy warm and I didn’t mind being out in the weather. This hat replaces a bulky hat I’ve been wearing for the past couple of years that doesn’t do much to keep my ears warm. So much better than having to deal with ear muffs. This is a GREAT hat!”

Best women’s faux fur hats

Futrzane Faux Fur Hat with Fleece

“Elegant looking hat. Despite the fact that it was folded up in an envelope for international shipping, the good quality faux fur sprang right back into shape and looks great. The fur has a nice sheen to it and the grain travels around the hat so it mainly lies down instead of being wild looking. The fit is comfortable and the hat covers my ears. I am pleased with this purchase. Sometimes you just want a stylish winter hat for going to town or to work and this is definitely stylish. The brown fur is a deep, rich brown color.”

Futrzane Women’s Russian Cossack Faux Fur Hat

“I love these hats. They’re warm and they’re pretty and they’re handy. I always get compliments when I wear one, and they’re great for when it’s chilly and you don’t want to mess with your hair! I wore mine one morning when I went to get my hair done, and my hairdresser almost stole it. I got her one and she was so thrilled she did my hair for free. She wears hers skiing. I like the white, but I will probably get some in other colors.”

Best women’s beanies

Tough Headwear Cable Knit Beanie

“This is an awesome beanie and I can’t believe I paid $9 for it! I needed a simple black hat for a trip to the mountains earlier this month. I wore this beanie every day and it kept my head very warm while looking stylish! I would definitely buy this hat again and in other colors!”

C.C Warm Chunky Soft Stretch Cable Knit Beanie

“I love this beanie! I literally wore it almost every day last winter. It has held up perfectly and was the perfect thickness for our late night ice skating around the holidays. The fit was great, and it is probably the only beanie I have ever owned that doesn’t fall off when I wear it a little farther back. I also ended up buying it in purple, black, burgundy, light rose, and taupe. I let my roommate wear it one day, and the next week she ordered two for herself.”

Best women’s beanies with faux-fur pom-poms

Angela & William Women’s Fleece Lined Cable Knitted Pom Pom Beanie

“This is a great hat — cute, super warm, and nicely made. Has a nice fit, too — not too tight. I bought it to wear while walking my dog in the winter and it’s the warmest hat I have. I’m very pleased with it — very high-quality at a fair price. Would definitely buy from this seller again.”

C.C Thick Cable Knit Faux Fur Pom Fleece-Lined Beanie

“Great beanie that looks super cute. When I opened it I was very surprised that it looked exactly like the picture. The knitting is nice and the beanie is big enough for all my hair to fit inside. The heat this keeps in is great, my head stays so warm that I never complain about being cold. If I feel like I need another beanie, I’ll most likely just get this in another color.”

Best women’s beanie with real fur pom-pom

Furtalk Winter Beanie Hat

“I am very happy with this purchase. This hat is much higher in quality than similar styles I have seen in stores. The snap-on, snap-off pom-pom is large and I like that I will be able to wash the hat without ruining the fur. The hat itself is double-layered and quite warm. I walked through Boston last night in 26-degree temps and my head was warm. In terms of fit, the hat covers my ears. It is appropriately snug and I like that the pom-pom sits on top of my head and I don’t feel it move or bounce as I walk.”

Best women’s beanie with built-in speakers

Tenergy Wireless Bluetooth Beanie Hat with Detachable Stereo Speakers & Microphone

“I bought this for myself in the early fall. It was such a good deal that I couldn’t pass it up. I didn’t have high expectations for the price, but it ended up being a great accessory. A single charge lasts for a week or so with casual use and, apart from the blinking light on the ear, nobody knows you’re listening to music while it’s on. If you’re looking for a killer hat that will blast some killer music via Bluetooth wherever your head may need some warmth, this is your hat.”

Best women’s status beanie

Carhartt Women’s Acrylic Watch Hat

“Growing up on a farm and living out in the sticks most of my life, Carhartt beanies have always been a must-have item in my wardrobe. I’m a major beanie hoarder, and have tons of different brands/styles for basically every occasion, but no other brand seems to fit or hold up nearly as well as my Carhartt beanies. Also the prices are unbeatable in my opinion!”

Best women’s trapper hats

City Hunter W300 Premium Wool Solid Trapper Hat

“Super warm! I love the style of it even though I was originally looking for something with shorter flaps. I’ve already had two people ask me where i got it! It’s great — warm, not scratchy, no shedding, and a great price. Would highly recommend.”

Mad Bomber Original Hat

“I love this hat. Up until now, I have been wearing your basic knit caps that you can buy at any clothing store. Knit caps have been adequate for the most part but this hat takes warmth and comfort to a whole new level. I will never go back to basic knit caps now that I have been spoiled with this trapper’s hat. I now have three of them including two with synthetic fur and one with rabbit fur. You can’t go wrong with either type because both of them are much warmer than the knit hats I used to wear. Plus, you will look pretty cool, too.”

Best women’s vintage-style hat

Siggi Women’s Vintage Wool Felt Cloche Hat

“I felt a bit risky buying a no-name hat off Amazon, but I was nicely surprised. It’s a nice hat! It’s crushable as it says, and comes back to the same shape when you put it on your head. It is a bit big, I have maybe a medium-large head and I kinda like how it falls down over your ears more. I think the bow over one ear looks fantastic (asymmetry is always better in a hat I think, since faces are asymmetrical) but you can also wear the bow to the back if you want and it looks just as it should.”
