The J.Crew Catalog: Wait, Don’t You Know Somebody Who Went to School With That Girl? Take a look at the cover of the J.Crew catalog on the left. It’s two pretty models zipped into hoodie sweatshirts together. How sweet! Look closer. Recognize the ginger on the left? It’s Jessica Joffe, the former Observer assistant turned model who has previously appeared in campaigns for Banana Republic and Uniqlo. You may remember her from the New York Times, where she described herself and her boyfriend Ryan Adams as “Like, a low-rent, mall version of Sid and Nancy.” She looks kind of smug in that picture, huh? Well, if you were a twentysomething Stanford grad who models for a living and lives with a rock-star boyfriend, you might be smug, too. We’d say something bitter and catty, but we’re afraid Ryan Adams would come after us with his words. Earlier: New Uniqlo Model Jessica Joffe Doesn’t Read the Paper

These Ladies Fugging Love Cool JamesFor the second season in a row, John Varvatos debuted his new collection at the very top of 7 World Trade Center, which boasts a spectacular view of Manhattan and a moving perspective on ground zero. Many of the guests were unable to keep up the usual routine of schmoozing with their fellow fashionistas, instead wandering over to the floor-to-ceiling windows to take a look.

Proenza Schouler Show More Fun Than Your GYN AppointmentProenza Schouler moved uptown to the magnificent Park Avenue Armory this year, and their fans came with them. We spotted the usual cadre of interchangeable blonde fashion editors, a sprinkling of socialites (including Aerin Lauder and avowed Proenza lover Jessica Joffe, who was wearing the same outfit she had on at the 11 a.m. Sari Gueron show — scandale!), and, of course, Anna Wintour, this time with daughter Bee Shaffer in tow.

Socialites and Starlets Face Off in a Coast-to-Coast Battle Royale! New York socialites and Hollywood starlets have traditionally inhabited two separate celebrity worlds. Never mind the continent between them; they also do different things. Society girls bring attention to disfiguring diseases by wearing designer dresses to galas, while their Hollywood counterparts spend evenings talking their way into free drinks at the latest hot bars, usually not wearing any underwear. And, for years, each group has seemed content to remain within its own orbit. Until now. The Great New York Socialite Invasion of 2007 hit Los Angeles when Tinsley Mortimer and Fabiola Beracasa descended for some Oscar post-parties. It was the first sign of cross-pollination between the two PR-grubbing groups, and we fear it will not go smoothly. Will the L.A. girls tolerate the New Yorkers moving in on their turf? Will the East Coasters give the locals the respect they demand? A battle royale could be in the works. Here’s who we see poised for face-offs — and who we predict will be left standing at the end, triumphantly clutching a bloodied hair extension.

At Proenza Schouler, Only the Photographers Are Rowdy Until today, we’d never been to a show that was running so late that the models were being given their catwalk instructions as we took our seats. Unlike other shows that run behind schedule (why, hello, Marc Jacobs), Proenza Schouler started a perfectly respectable 45 minutes late.

Tripping the Runway FantasticWe spent the first few days of Fashion Week giddily anticipating our first glimpse of Anna Wintour. We fielded several phone calls from home asking if we’d seen The Bobbed One yet. But the answer was always a downtrodden “no.” Until today.
