John Mayer's Diet Comes With a Side of Irony

Pop crooner John Mayer has just started a mlog (meal log) on his blog, and he’s photographing everything he eats with the fervor of a Japanese izakaya denizen. Given that his snapshots are of things like, say, waffles, we don’t think he’s taking this seriously (though Endless Simmer is taking the endeavor seriously enough to call Mayer “the douchiest food blogger ever”). Rather, his spiel about the project smacks of playful sarcasm:
Americans are celebrity obsessed, and that obsession shows no signs of stopping … I’ve decided to make the most personal facet of my life public. My meals.

‘In Touch’ Buys Angelina's Pregnancy

Mariah Carey Even Out-Divas Bill Clinton at ‘Save the Music’ Fête

Event planners for last night's "VH1: Save the Music" benefit were so accustomed to diva Mariah Carey's lateness that they built in an hour's delay into their schedule. As a result, the songstress arrived right just in time, joining stars like Conan O'Brien, John Mayer, James Blunt, Jon Bon Jovi, Mya, and Quincy Jones. Hillary Clinton was supposed to be there but sent her husband instead. "“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m doing tonight what I hope I’ll be doing for all of us for the next several years," Clinton told the crowd. Fewer Hollywood stars than usual are expected at Fashion Week when it starts September 5, because the Emmys and the MTV Video Music Awards are the same week. Usher's pregnant girlfriend, whom he was slated to marry on Saturday until a last-minute cancellation, checked into a hospital for "pregnancy complications," though it may just be a ploy to get him back. Ivana Trump is set to get married for a third time, to Rossano Rubicondi.

Michael Moore may support Al Gore for president. A theater in the HBO building was named for former network chief Michael Fuchs, and Fuchs gave a weird, bad, awkward speech at the ceremony. Jerry Seinfeld is very excited about his upcoming Bee Movie. 50 Cent is very excited about playing a drug dealer opposite Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in his upcoming movie. A lot of racehorse owners are not pleased with Eliot Spitzer's plan for Aqueduct to be government-run. David Burke took home $10,000 after beating Bobby Flay and Sam Talbot in a poker tournament in Aspen. Jimmy Fallon wants to lose weight. "Utter pandemonium" broke out, says a "Page Six" source, after Debra Messing, Mike Nichols, and other guests were rained upon during the Public Theater's premiere of Romeo and Juliet in Central Park. (Actually, we thought it was pretty fun.) Ian Claus dedicated his first book to Chelsea Clinton.

A former colleague of Hollywood superagent (and Ari Gold inspiration) Ari Emanuel says he intentionally threw tantrums when talking to Entourage producer Doug Ellin so they'd make it into the show's script. Donna Hogan plans to make over her appearance — plastic surgery and all — so that she looks just like sister Anna Nicole Smith. NBC's Campbell Brown may take Paula Zahn's spot at CNN if she leaves. Jason Binn's wife is pregnant. Dina Lohan denies saying she ever called herself the "White Oprah," except that she did. Patti Smith is covering the Doors' "Soul Kitchen" because a sanitation truck that almost ran her over was playing that song. The Soho Grand Is a Wonderland

Rumors of the demise of the John Mayer–Jessica Simpson relationship may be greatly exaggerated; the two spent Sunday night together at the Soho Grand. (Mayer is also still doing the stand-up comedy thing). Today show correspondent Jill Rappaport owns eighteen acres in the Hamptons. Johnny Damon hung out till 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, but he still hit a two-run double later in the day. Ivanka Trump and Zach Braff exchanged numbers. (Uh-oh. Does Jared Kushner know about this?) Warren Buffett, David Remnick, John Kerry, Ted Turner, and Jann Wenner, among others (ahem), were all rejected from Harvard. After asking for $5.5 million, Stone Phillips sold his penthouse on West 72nd Street for $4.35 million. Times managing editor Jill Abramson is suing the truck driver who ran over her foot.

The judge in the Phil Spector case informed a law-school symposium that Spector better not lie under oath. Edward Albee once stole a typewriter. Tom Ford thinks he's getting too old to care about sex. John Mayer hit on a bunch of girls at Stereo but left solo. Among the items in the gift bag at the Museum of Sex benefit last week: a vibrator and a Mandy Moore single. Burglars who broke into Michael Cox Witmer's penthouse neglected to take any of his valuable paintings. Kid Rock left a party at Cannes because Pam Anderson was there. Albrecht Out at HBO

HBO chairman Chris Albrecht was forced to resign last night after allegedly beating up his girlfriend Sunday, likely because this wasn't his first domestic assault. Harvey Weinstein had to explain to girlfriend Georgina Chapman that Elie Wiesel was notable for being "in a concentration camp" at the Time 100 fête. And Jessica Simpson dressed conservatively at the event to not draw attention from boyfriend and honoree John Mayer. Cameron Diaz went to a sex show at the Box the night before appearing on the Today show. Josh Hartnett and Helena Christensen sang karaoke together. Lorne Michaels sang karaoke at oil heir William Hess's bar mitzvah. Nancy Grace is trying to get on The View now that she's out at Court TV. NBC News' David Gregory may be Don Imus's replacement.

Jared Kushner was caught making out with Ivanka Trump while bowling. While hanging with some ex-CIA spies, Robert De Niro hit the sauna with KGB colonels and fired guns with Taliban warriors. An aide in the Israeli U.N. mission quit after being outed as a DL gay-porn star. NBC paid $2.5 million for the rights to air a Princess Di tribute concert in July, which may have been the reason they also scored an interview with the princes. Surprising Time "100 Most Influential People" includee John Mayer will also perform at the party. Paris Hilton appears in court today for her DUI charges. Jon Stewart and Tom Brokaw helped raise $72 million from hedge-fund bigwigs at a Robin Hood Foundation charity event.

A Radar editor left a cell phone on — as in, making a call to someone's voice mail — during a meeting, and the recording showed that staff meetings are disorganized. Donald Trump is planning to build a $125 million house in Palm Beach, and the locals aren't happy about it. Damaging tape of Britney Spears "partying" with two dancers at a club may soon surface. Jane magazine asked girls to bare their breasts for a picture spread but canceled after a staffer mistakenly unveiled the identities of the participants. Jake Gyllenhaal and David Fincher had some "artistic differences" on the set of Zodiac. Phillip Bloch was not impressed by how Vogue's André Leon Talley styled Jennifer Hudson's thighs at the Oscars. Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselback got into (another) fight at The View, which ended with Hasselback (again) in tears. Graydon Carter and Jim Kelly hosted a book party for Kurt Andersen at the Waverly Inn, and a lot of media bigwigs showed.
