Jeff Zucker Snaps Up Kitty’s Old Place The Upper East Side home of legendary actress Kitty Carlisle Hart, who died last April of pneumonia at the age of 96, has found a buyer after just 43 days on the market. According to the Stribling.com Web listing, the unsurprisingly stately eleven-room on East 62nd Street, which has five bedrooms, four baths and a library, has a “contract signed.” (It was snapped up in August.) The site has pics of the apartment, in which you’ll see that when they say “apartment,” they mean “well-appointed palace,” and by “library,” they mean, “bowling alley.” The spread is in Madison Avenue’s fabulous Verona building, a luxe palazzo only containing 20 apartments. The rumored future owner of this rare real estate gem? NBC chief Jeff Zucker and his wife, Karen, who’ve been looking since 2005, when they sold their sprawling co-op on Central Park West, says a source. The new place is just a hop skip and a jump from Rockefeller Center, so don’t be surprised if you start seeing Zucker walk to work in the mornings! Okay, no, you should still be surprised. —S. In Astor Aftermath, High Society Begins to Aim Below the BeltBrooke Astor is not yet in her grave, and already tempers are boiling over funeral plans, bequests, and contested codicils to her will. The society matriarch had been planning her grand funeral for over ten years (it’s not morbid, people, a decade ago she was 95), and the list includes surviving boldfacers like Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara, Renée Fleming, Walter Cronkite, Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, and Martha Stewart. It will take place at 2:30 on Friday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Fifth Avenue, the home nest of American Wasp culture. Still to be determined are the pallbearers, notes the Times. Per Astor’s request, will her friends David Rockefeller and Annette de la Renta be included? Or will their foe Anthony Marshall, her son, replace them with Marines? (And who will play the role of Kitty Carlisle Hart, who died this April??) Meanwhile, the Post claims Marshall worked with a crooked lawyer to amend his mother’s will during her ailing years, and that De la Renta may try to take over stewardship of the estate. “I see no valid reason to contest the will,” retorted Marshall when contacted by the Post. “A will is a will!” We really hope the dialogue continues on this level. Remembering Kitty Carlisle Hart, a Last Link to Glamorous New York Kitty Carlisle Hart belonged to the heyday of the ‘21’ Club and Sardi’s, of Harpo Marx acting up at parties where George Gershwin (who once proposed to her) played only his own songs. Her death today, at a vibrant 96, severs one of the last links to a New York that had more glamour than celebrity, more sophistication than wealth. In a newspaper interview a few years ago — between cabaret engagements, dates with beaux, and the other social commitments incumbent upon a “living landmark” of the city — she wondered what had happened to the place. Decades ago, she recalled, “we used to get all dressed up and go out dancing, then we’d go out for breakfast, and then we’d go to work the next day. I don’t know why they don’t do that anymore.”
