Tile Bar, Magician Owners Let Their Son Drive the Bar Yesterday Eater sniffed out the just-opened 12th Street Ale House, in the former Dick’s space. We’ve confirmed it is indeed operated by the owners of the Magician and Tile Bar (they also own the building), but despite that new-bar smell, we have to say it’s missing some of the charm of those haunts (and do a dozen okay beers on tap warrant the name “Ale House”?). In fact it seems some of the staff agrees with us — we’ve heard they’re none too pleased that the 21-year-old son of the owners is cutting his managerial teeth at the spot and planning to install a beer-pong table in the back to go along with plasma TVs loaded up with sports packages. An attempt to serve warm pretzels has already failed (the free-popcorn machine should be working soon), and it seems the staff is waiting for the rest of the fratty extras to recede so the bar can turn into a solid local à la sister spot WXOU. Here’s our question: Where the hell is the jukebox? Related: 12th Street Ale House Opens, More Red Mango! [Eater]
