Adrian Grenier Learned Nothing From Meryl Streep

In a world already filled with unaffordable, covetous objects, it makes perfect sense that Mercedes-Benz sponsors Fashion Week. As last night’s kickoff party at the Box — the latest in Serge Becker’s Chrystie Street nightlife empire — showed, we can expect many an outsize sports car to be blocking our sidewalks and crushing our self-esteem these next seven days.

Though the party is not as big a draw as Marc Jacobs’s, in attendance was the kind of crowd that makes more trips to Turks & Caicos per year than the Lower East Side. Guests included Fern Mallis, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Donna Karan, Kelly Killoren, Amanda Hearst, Alex Kramer, Celerie Kemble, Derek Blasberg, Claire Bernard, Zani Gugelmann, Tinsley Mortimer, and Fabiola Beracasa, who admits she totally reads Socialite Rank and finds your comments very “hurtful.” (Check back with Show & Talk for more from Fabiola throughout Fashion Week.)

Crowded in the “special seated” balcony area so packed it had Mallis rolling her eyes were an unrecognizable America’s Next Top Model: Cycle 2 winner Yoanna House and a few actors of genuine note: Michael C. Hall; white hip-hop fan No. 1 Adrien Brody; Nick Cannon, who, as we know from last year only showed up for the girls and free booze; Mena Suvari, the one fashion whore in town who really knows from cool; and Adrian Grenier, who thinks he only got the invite because he was in The Devil Wears Prada. Sadly, Grenier told us, Meryl Streep’s endless costume changes in that film have taught him nothing, “I’m still a complete numbskull when it comes to fashion.” Yeah, kinda looked that way. — Jada Yuan
