Diane Von Furstenberg — riot grrl? The design genius is now the grande dame behind the latest girl-power movement. Last night, in celebration of International Women's Day (which is tomorrow), DVF turned her meatpacking-district studio into a theater, plastered with Warholian depictions of — what else? — her face. She even staged a play based on women who've overcome hardships like rape and poverty in Third World countries. All this to support Vital Voices, a charity that provides resources to emerging women leaders around the world. This isn't the first time Von Furstenberg has championed a cause. In her role as CFDA president, she urged her colleagues to ensure the health of their models. While skinny still reigns supreme, maybe designers will join Von Furstenberg in supporting women who need help more than clothes.
