Video: Behind the Scenes at Rodarte’s Studio

Rodarte earned a nomination for the Swarovski Award for womenswear in this year’s CFDA awards. It’s no mystery why: Their Japanese-horror-film-inspired fall collection was one of the most celebrated this past Fashion Week. So we sent New York magazine’s fashion director, Harriet Mays Powell, to their studio with a video camera to chat with the design team behind the label, Kate and Laura Mulleavy. They explain they wanted their models to appear bloody, covered in hair, sunken, and hallow. They also give us a close look at their incredible handiwork, including one blue ballerina-esque dress that took two weeks to make. Watch and find out more about the designers’ inspirations.
