The blogosphere, and perhaps the world, is abuzz with the news that Russian maybe-lesbian music duo t.A.T.u. are the stars of the new Marc by Marc Jacobs ad campaign. Last night we came across word of this befuddling casting. The news section of the t.A.T.u. site trumpeted, "t.A.T.u. became the faces of Marc by Marc Jacob / fall-winter ’08 campaign." Yes, they called him "Jacob." But this morning, they had corrected the spelling and added two little but oh-so-significant words; the entry now reads, "t.A.T.u. became the faces of Marc by Marc Jacobs / fall-winter ’08 campaign in Russia." Emphasis ours. That would make much more sense as most of us here would rather not have to think about t.A.T.u. after witnessing them with their panty-clad army at the VMAs years ago. And then as we were typing this, another entry was added to the news section with more details!
Marc by Marc Jacobs Russian campaign will support the launch of PR-project “Marc’s Girl”. In Marc Jacobs Moscow boutique from 2 to 16 September there will be an on-going competition for the most trendy fashion-lovers – every girl can come and try herself in a photo-casting. The winners will be invited to the Marc Jacobs fashion show in New York, featured in a photoshoot in a fancy glossie and presented with designer clothes MbM. Find out more details in Marc Jacobs boutique in Moscow (Petrovka Str, 16).
Well that's exciting … for Russia. After the jump, we have video footage of what was allegedly the shoot for t.A.T.u.'s Russian Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign.
