Perhaps Carine Roitfeld sparked a revolution with her Mongolian-lamb fur coat. All shaggy and rock-and-roll, it caused a bit of a sensation. Gone are the days of a little trim mink and perfectly pretty fox stole. This season, designers sent out messy furs, oodles of lamb, and shearling like you wouldn't believe. PETA, we suggest you avert your eyes. (But we daresay, with fur like this, faux will work just as well as the real deal.) From Giles Deacon's Cousin Itt–like skirt to Mongolian-lamb fur at Ralph Lauren, fall is going to be a bit hairy.
Aquilano e Rimondi
Aquilano e Rimondi showed wraps just shaggy enough to be fun without being too overdone.
Bottega Veneta mixed long-haired furs with ladylike outfits.
Belted or cropped, Brioni's furs had a modern look.
Burberry got in on the act, giving us three different options to pick from.
Why settle for black or a neutral color when you can have blue or purple? Or both, like at Carlos Miele?
Cushnie et Ochs
Multicolored furs were seen at many, many runways this season. Cushnie et Ochs' version had alternating bands.
We couldn't have a fur trend without the king of furs. Dennis Basso offered up shaggy vests and trim.
Derek Lam paired a hairy shag with a more sheared fur, and a trim with leather. Small doses go far.
Dolce & Gabbana
Dolce & Gabbana was, of course, over-the-top. But that's what we love about them. Their furs incorporated the oversize shoulders trend and bows to nip in at the waist.
Vests, coats, and jackets at Fendi. Options are always nice.
Giles Deacon combined knit and fur in his coat and skirt. We suggest not wearing these together.
Cropped, shaggy, and multicolored. Yes, Graeme Black is right on trend.
Gucci's cropped jackets -- an update to the bomber, but in fur.
House of Holland
The lamb coats and jackets at House of Holland followed the gradient pattern of the rest of the collection.
More short, cropped jackets and vests, this time at J. Mendel.
John Richmond sent out coats and jackets fit for your inner rock star.
Julien Macdonald sent out coats that matched the rainbow. And he showed us that you don't need to wear clothes underneath. Sort of.
Marni paired her coat with a bold necklace. It draws the eye away from the fur but isn't too distracting.
Even the lining is shaggy this season, like at Maurizio Pecoraro.
Shaggier fur wasn't the domain of the European shows. The New York designers showed plenty, including Michael Kors. He may have opted for a subtle length in the fur, but he gave us a bold color.
Marios Schwab went for bright, bold, and hairy.
Matthew Williamson's striped coat and trim.
Pamella Roland's take, complete with alternating hues.
Paul Smith's coat was as shaggy as they get.
3.1 Phillip Lim
Phillip Lim's Mongolian-lamb jacket was by far one of our favorite pieces of his collection. The designer also offered up an even shaggier option and a vest.
Big, puffy, and furry at Preen.
Peter Dundas's first Pucci collection had a darker, more rock-and-roll feel. And the fur coats echoed that sentiment.
Ralph Lauren showed us snowy-white Mongolian lamb fur.
Ferragamo's jackets were on trend: cropped and shaggy.
Thakoon's jackets and coats were dyed to resemble feathers.
