Last night Paulina Porizkova went on the Late Late Show and told host Craig Ferguson she was in L.A. because she was looking for a job. Apparently she was fired from America's Next Top Model — on her birthday, which was April 9. So sadly, tonight's twelfth-season finale will be Paulina's last appearance on the show as a judge. "The reason I was told I was fired was because it seemed that America's Next Top Model has gotten too fat, and they needed to cut some fat, and the fat was me," Paulina explained. The reason Paulina has to go is perhaps the same reason no past winners of the series have made it to the top or booked any gigs worth talking about: only one model can be on top for as long as Tyra Banks shall live, and that model will always be Tyra Banks.
Paulina said her dismissal was due to "my gigantic, huge ego. Which I wasn't aware of until I was told by the producers that I have an ego problem." Indeed, it was only a matter of time before Tyra's ego ate Paulina's. Paulina joined in the tenth season as a replacement for Twiggy. She did well in her judge's seat, but over time interacted with the contestants more than any other judge and coddled the cherubic creatures where perhaps Tyra should have coddled. This season alone, Paulina has mentored the girls on several challenges, including the acting challenge with Clay Aiken and the samba challenge last week. She has sharpened her critiques and let her stage persona shine more than ever before. Now that her ego is nice and plump, it's time to take it to the slaughterhouse.
But who will replace Paulina? Since models can't survive in that seat, Tyra should avoid them altogether. She needs someone meek, a poor lost soul the press has whittled down to a shell of a famous person, yet someone famous and compelling enough to draw in viewers and who needs a job badly enough to accept the position. And that person can only be Lindsay Lohan.
