J.Crew’s Men’s Shop Mixes Suits With Hipster Goods

Earlier this month, J.Crew’s newest outpost — The Men’s Shop — located in the former Universal News space — opened its doors to the public. The original newsstand storefront was restored, and the interior was spiffed up with wood-paneled walls, plank flooring, and reclaimed furniture, for a groovy log-cabin vibe. The stock consists of plenty of preppy basics for the everyday man, like plaid button-downs, khaki shorts, and tees. But the Mr. Freedom denim peacoats, Jutta Neuman sandals, and Mackintosh coats appeal to the more style conscious. There’s also a heavy vintage presence in the form of cufflinks, magazines, and aviators. Though the Men’s Shop is pretty much a hybrid of the preppy chain stores and the hipster Liquor Store J.Crew wares, the shop offers something different: a Suiting Shop, which features off-the-rack suits, with tailors on hand. We took a tour of the new space and picked out some standout pieces.
