Tobi Rubinstein Schneier interviewed designer Douglas Hannant at her House of Faith & Fashion discussion at the Plaza's Caudalie Spa earlier this week. Hannant was not so enthusiastic about the First Lady's wardrobe. "Everyone compares her to Jackie O — she is not the next Jackie O," he said. "There were some gasps in the room," an attendee told "Page Six." Michelle Obama doesn't wear Hannant's pieces, and the boutique her unofficial stylist, Ikram Goldman, runs in Chicago doesn't carry them. We put in a call to Hannant's office to find out what exactly he meant by this comparison, but haven't heard back. [Page Six/NYP]
Update: A spokesman for Hannant just e-mailed us his response:
I did say 'Michelle Obama is not another Jackie Kennedy and I do not consider to be a style icon." But in addition, I also said " she has so much more to her and has mass appeal. I admire her as a role model and think she will achieve great things in her position as First Lady"
... And by the way, I voted for Obama.
