In February, the circus known as Fashion Week will take place in the Bryant Park tents for the last time before moving to Damrosch Park in Lincoln Center. And New York's fashion community is taking full advantage of the location, with a full calendar of events. Ruth Finley, who makes the fashion calendar, says the fall 2010 season of shows will be at least as busy as last season's record-breaking 299 shows and presentations. Hell, they may as well run the place into the ground, because it's the last time they'll need it! And fashion people are probably keen to take full advantage of the convenience of the Tents, because when the shows move to Damrosch, no one will want to stage or go to anything because it's all the way on 62nd Street between Columbus and Amsterdam.
It is bound to be quite a trek to 62nd Street between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues, but Lincoln Center has already made strategic moves to make the fashion crowd feel right at home. Next month, Vogue alum Stephanie Winston Wolkoff will start in her new role as Lincoln Center’s director, fashion week. She will be the liaison between Lincoln Center and the fashion industry, including designers, retailers, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and IMG Fashion, which organizes Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Well, that sort of clears up what she's doing — convincing everyone that really, that extra twenty-some odd blocks will not actually kill us. It will make us stronger.
