Alexander McQueen Loses Design Award to Student

Every year the Design Museum in London gives awards to the best designs in seven categories: architecture, fashion, furniture, graphics, interactive, product, and transport. Though Alexander McQueen won the fashion category for his spring 2010 collection, he lost the overall award for best design of the year to Royal College of Art student Min-Kyu Choi, who created a plug that folds flat. As in, the kind of plug you use to connect your laptop to a power source. "The folding plug shows how intelligent, elegant and inventive design can make a difference to everyone's life," the judging panel chairman said. The director of the museum also heralded how "practical" it is. Frankly, our lives would be more changed by owning one of those spring McQueen runway pieces.
