PLASTIC SURGERY
• More than 100 doctors across the country now offer clients the option to stay awake with local anesthesia during breast augmentation surgery. [NYT]

• A new report published in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery states that nearly 40 percent of doctors who offer liposuction in California are not surgeons and have no specific surgical training. This is legal, as California allows doctors who have taken a class or training session, but are not specifically surgeons, to perform the procedure. [Daily Beauty Reporter/Allure]

MAKEUP
• Stylist Lori Goldstein, who most recently worked on editorials featuring Rihanna and Julianna Margulies: "Regarding makeup, lately I've taken to wearing a bit more. It's so interesting because all the top people in fashion don't wear makeup. We're working. We're on location, we're traveling. We're down and dirty, but no one thinks we are. That said, lipstick is necessary." [Beauty Blogging Junkie]

NAILS
• Research company Kline & Co. reports that nail-polish sales grew 14.3 percent compared to last year, which is more than lipstick and makeup sales rose. [PR Newswire]
