Estrella Archs Leaves Emanuel Ungaro

Yesterday, WWD reported Giles Deacon was spotted lunching with the owner of Emanuel Ungaro, sending the industry into a frenzy of speculation they'd hire him to replace current designer Estrella Archs. Well, if you were working somewhere and everyone was talking about how they can't wait to replace you, you'd want to leave before they booted you out too, right? And so Archs's spokesperson confirms today she's leaving the label to "continue developing her own brand," which she started in 2007 and shows at Paris Fashion Week. Archs came on two seasons ago to design along with Lindsay Lohan, who was let go after one season of pasties gone wrong.

As for Lohan, who is credited with Ungaro's downward spiral of late, her 6126 line of leggings is expanding into a full line of apparel. So she must be good in some way at whatever it is that she does in this business. Her business partner, 6126 president Kristi Kaylor, says Lohan has never let her down.

"I work with her, and she comes to every meeting on time," Kaylor told the LA Times of Lohan. "She's very engaged. It's such a different thing when you sit with her. You get a sense of her passion about fashion. I believe she will always be there for the brand. At the end of the day, she has a heart of gold. She just needs people to believe in her."

Of course she won't say bad things about her employer. But could she be right? Could everyone who watched her disastrous debut at Ungaro and never "believed" her to begin with, have set her up for failure? Hmmm. An afternoon thinker for you.
