Dior’s Cruise Collection Mostly Pink, Purple, and Covered

John Galliano has given up his love affair with bras, panties, and negligés in his work for Christian Dior. The Nouvelle Vague–inspired resort collection he showed in Shanghai on Saturday to coincide with the opening of that city’s new Dior boutique included some of the most opaque things Galliano has delivered in some time. Though he did put one pair of panty-shorts on the runway along with a few sheer things, the clothes were more good-girl Barbie than anything. When Karl Lagerfeld showed in Shanghai, he looked to the city for inspiration. But Galliano told WWD he was intent on keeping things very French: “[China is an] emerging market and a big player in the field and very thirsty to understand couture, craftsmanship and the savoir faire Français.” Who misses the bras and garters?
