It's hard to beat a bike for summer commuting — it's generally faster (and cooler) than the subway and cheaper than a taxi. In New York, bikes have become seasonal accessories, tricked out with bells, baskets, and pastel paint. New Tribeca bike shop Adeline Adeline is the first store in the U.S. to stock these chic helmets by Danish company Yakkay. The base is a traditional hard helmet (safety trumps style when you're sharing the road with erratic cabs), but the interchangeable covers come in versions ranging from black denim to blue stripes to herringbone.
Yakkay helmets, $175 for helmet and cover; $65 for cover alone at Adeline Adeline.
