Preview Sarah Burton’s First Full Women’s Collection for Alexander McQueen

Sarah Burton has dressed Sarah Jessica Parker and Lady Gaga since taking over design at Alexander McQueen. Following her first full men's show for the label, her first full women's resort collection just came out (the label is calling it pre-spring). Burton was responsible, as Lee Alexander McQueen's right-hand woman, for turning his runway fantasies into more commercial things women will buy in stores. That seems evident in the pre-spring line, inspired by Hans Bellmer’s dolls and samurai warriors. The goal, she said, was to "juxtapose the pale and the delicate with the bold and armorial. It’s about a highly structured torso that gives way to a more fluid silhouette or drop waists that lead to a finned trouser or skirt."
